The Route
UPDATED in 2024 due to local paving and washouts – link to the updated route (no hike a bike, but longer to route around the rustic trail)
Link to the original route from the new start location (includes a rustic trail that may require hike a bike)
Taking the Train?
Got you, fam. You can cut a few miles and just start from the Peekskill Metro-North train station.
Updated route to Sprout Brook start from Peekskill Metro North Station
Parking
Parking is readily available in the ball-sports off-season at the Town of Cortlandt All Purpose Fields (the new start location that removes several junk miles through the City)
The original 2020 route began at River Outpost Brewing in Peekskill, NY. If you plan to park there, please park as far from the entrance as possible and patronize the establishment for post-ride hydration and nutrition. River Outpost was an original partner for the Frozen Apple.
Other founding partners were Pedal Peekskill and Westchester Cycle Club.
Just a few blocks south, down John Walsh Blvd, is Lent’s Cove Park with parking for if you don’t wish to patronize River Outpost post-ride. Be considerate of other park users. There may or may not be facilities; please plan your pre-ride bio break accordingly.
Got Bailouts?
You know we do. This ride isn’t for the faint of legs.
Generally, the route crosses Old Albany Post Road a few times – head south to get pack to Sprout Brook Rd (and don’t forget to turn right at the stop sign to stay on Sprout Brook Rd to get back to the ballfields)
Anything else to know?
First and foremost: I am not responsible for you or your ride experience.
Make sure you ride within your abilities. Ride with a friend. Check the weather and conditions and plan accordingly. Bring enough food and water for the ride. There is a gas station at Mile 10 on Route 9D and Cold Spring is off-route at mile 26 on Route 9D. Be very careful crossing US Route 9 and 301 – it’s heavily trafficked so do not assume anyone is looking for a cyclist crossing the road. You are out on public roads so all rules of the road apply to you.
That being said, have fun, be safe, and can’t wait to hear your thoughts and see your pics!
